1300 RUBBISH is Australia’s largest hands-on rubbish removal company.

The company was formerly called ‘Tip Talk’ and aimed to become a national business, but underdeveloped systems limited growth. The same bottlenecks that hold the rest of the industry back restricted the business – job allocation to remote drivers, customer management and administration. There was no budget for R&D or marketing.

In 2003 ‘Tip Talk’ contacted Phoneword Marketing and after a couple of meetings we agreed to terms as equity partners, and the company rebranded as 1300RUBBISH. Since Phoneword Marketing became involved 1300RUBBISH revenues have increased significantly. In fact, 1300RUBBISH’s revenue has an annual compound growth rate over 50%.

The success of 1300RUBBISH is attributed to a number of key factors:

  • Strong intellectual property. By having a brand name that describes the business and is also a phone number, 1300RUBBISH communicates a lot of information in its logo (business name + phone number + website)
  • Thorough business analysis. Phoneword Marketing introduced comprehensive data mining with customized software and databases, and took the business to a level far above its competitors with forecasting, customer segmentation and territory analysis.
  • Expertise and experience made a significant difference to the company’s marketing efforts. After the rebrand 1300RUBBISH became much more focused on its marketing, and began to track the effectiveness of each campaign. Through this tracking, the best media channels were isolated and wastage minimized.
